Women are taking over the Kenyan blogosphere. During the recently concluded BAKE 2016 Awards, they won all the top five positions in the Best New Blog category.
Women were nominated in 14 out of 19 categories. They won top prize in nine of them – Best Food Blog, Best Fashion/Beauty/Hair/Style Blog, Best Political Blog, Best New Blog, Best Topical Blog, Best Education Blog, Best Travel Blog, Best Health Blog and Best County Blog.
Women scooped all the five positions in four categories: Best Food Blog, Best Fashion/Beauty/Hair/Style Blog, Best New Blog and Best Health Blog. On top of that they took the top two positions in Best Political Blog, Best Education Blog and Best County Blog categories; and all the top four positions in the Best Travel Blog.
Yvonne Lyra Aoko Were is the only woman who made it to the Kenyan Blog of the Year category. Women only made a technical appearance in the Best Creative Writing Blog and Best Business Blog categories with one nominee each and were absent in the Best Technology Blog, Best Photography Blog, Best Corporate Blog and Best Sports Blog categories.
