Why You Shouldn’t Give Up On Your New Year Resolutions

You set your new year resolutions early this month. How are you doing? Are you still on course or have you given up? Did you know that 80% of people abandon their new year resolutions between the 12th and 19th of January? And out of the remaining 20%, only 8% make it to the finish line. So, if you have given up or you are contemplating doing so, you are not alone.

why you want to give up on your new year resolutions
Adjust your strategy and keep going.

But why be part of the crowd when you could be one of those lifting the trophy at the end of the year? Instead of giving up, develop the discipline and dedication you need to achieve your goal. When you set a goal, you choose a new way of life, and you must follow through with it if you want to be successful in business.

This is how you can do it. Start by asking yourself these questions:

1- Why Did I Make This Resolution?

Whether your goal is about starting a new project or reviving an old one, it should be something you are passionate about. Besides, your goal should be aligned with your purpose.

2- How Do I Feel, Deep Down, About This Resolution?

Do you feel like you can achieve it within the timelines you set? Did you set realistic steps and tasks for your ‘big hairy’ goal? Listen to your gut as you answer these questions.

3- How Can I find an Accountability Partner?

Did you notice how you work on something with alacrity when you know you have to report to someone about it? Do the same with your goal and have a trusted friend or business partner hold you accountable. Did you put your resolution in writing and give it a deadline? This increased your chances of success by 50%. Did you tell a supportive friend about your goal? That increased your chances of success to 65%. If you take an accountability partner, you will have 95% chances of reaching your goal.

How do you find a good accountability partner? Look for someone who will never miss your weekly accountability meetings. If you can hold each other accountable, all the better. She doesn’t need to be your coach or mentor. She doesn’t even need to understand your business. Her only job is to ask you two questions:

1- Have you done ABC?

2- If not, what are you planning to do about it?

Keep your accountability meetings 15 minutes max. You will be amazed by the results!

Now go ahead, adjust your strategy, and keep going. The year has just begun. You can still make it!
